Wednesday, November 15, 2006UPDATE 11/16/2006 We are now back on the air with our full library of beautiful music you know and love. We use a Dell Server to hold our music library and event files. The server uses a Raid Five method in an array of large disk drives to work together to form the space necessary to hold our files. When a disk goes bad the hardware controller should identify the bad disk and replace it with an on-line spare. This did not happen. I have had many years of experience working with computers and servers. I noticed one of the Array member activity lights that did not appear normal. With nothing else to go on I took a chance and manually failed the drive. The spare was used and the library and related files saved. It gave us such a scare that we installed a new backup server that is ready to go at any needed moment. A firmware patch was also discovered that corrected the original issue with the Dell Server's hardware. Both servers are now running perfectly. We are still working on this issue as of Thursday at 11:45 AM est. As many of you are aware we have been playing a small set of backup songs while repairs are underway. Yesterday afternoon at about 1:30 PM, while we were only able to play backup music, we though it was a good time to replace our transmitter tubes. We are now back up to full power on our transmitter and continuing to work on the Music Library and Data lost. This morning we have new hope to recover the lost music and data from the failed server. It should take several more hours before we will know the outcome and if fully recovered a procedure to insure the extensive library is preserved will take several hours longer. We hope to have the system operational by early this evening, Thursday, November 16, 2006. |
