Thursday, December 09, 2010 Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays, to you and yours! Thank you for helping to continue the tradition of Jones College Radio. If it were not for you and others like you there would be no beautiful music station for you to enjoy. It is by your continuous support and donations we are able, to provide Beautiful Music programming through WKTZ 90.9 FM and WJAX 1220 AM. Don’t forget you and your friends can listen online from anywhere. We hope you’re enjoying the Christmas Music! Mr. Doelger from New Jersey sent me a message about comments I had made about the future of our broadcast. I stated if we could not obtain sufficient support, the College could better utilize the broadcast by changing format to target the younger population. The audience could better market Jones College programs, playing current music that our students want to hear with less sponsors and talk. Our friend and listener from New Jersey was outraged stating there were many things we could do to improve support. Suggesting we could have support weeks with stated goals. He went on an on but was most angered because we don’t provide clear guidance to our listeners as to the amount of support needed to keep our current format. I agreed there are many things we could do to improve support. It took me quite a bit of time in several messages to convince him that there was no immediate danger. We will not hold our listeners hostage with a fund drive like our PBS counterparts. However, it has been a tough year. Support is substantially off because of economic conditions. Let me assure you our Board of Trustees has agreed to continue our current service to the community, but not at the cost of our students. Your support and the support of others like you make the difference. We certainly hope we can depend on your future support or consider a donation before the end of this tax year on December 31, 2010. In some cases there are matching gifts available through your employer. We are short $100,000.00, but thankfully we have until the end of June to make up the difference. We have enclosed a postage paid envelope you can use for your comments and support. Your comments are very important and help us to provide the best service to you.
